About Toby
I'm an Engineering student at University of Southampton, maths is an integral part of my course. Ever since I can remember I have been fascinated by maths and has always one of the areas I excel in, for instance in my latest maths exam I achieved a first.
Furthermore, due to my affinity with maths I have generally found myself explaining the course content to others and find much pleasure in doing so.

For me maths is like a puzzle, my aim is to explain each part of the puzzle make sure my students understand how to assemble it. I will ensure my students understand each formula, problem and derivation and it's implication.
I believe that it is important to tie maths in with my students passions, for example if my students aim is to study chemistry I will make sure to find problems relating to this. I will find articles for background reading on how the studied topic is used in real life, this generally helps for understanding.
I'm aware that maths can be a very difficult topic for some, by taking time to understand my student I will tailor my lessons to go at the correct pace for each student to improve ability in understanding mathematics. I hope through my teaching process to pass on my passion for maths to my students, no longer making this subject a burden but rather a pleasure.
