About Nick
My name is Nick Lumba. I am a Curtin University undergraduate studying for a bachelor of education (primary). I'm from the Philippines and have lived in Australia since 2009. Generally, I am from Western Australia and have been in Sydney since the start of 2023.
Beyond academic achievement, I am committed to nurturing essential life skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication. I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom, and I am dedicated to helping my students develop the skills they need to succeed in all aspects of their lives.
As a lifelong learner, I constantly seek new resources, techniques, and approaches to enhance my tutoring and teaching practice. Whether attending professional development workshops, staying up-to-date with the latest educational research, or collaborating with colleagues, I always look for ways to improve and innovate.

The approach that I take when tutoring is a student-centred, sociocultural and constructivist approach. This is to meet students' personal needs from their lived experiences and nurture their knowledge. My approach to instruction is a Gradual Release of Responsibility (I do, We do, You do), which is influenced by the scaffolding method. This is primarily aimed at students from K to 6.
As a qualified and experienced tutor, I bring a wealth of expertise and dedication to my role. As an undergrad studying Bachelor of education at Curtin University, I possess a solid foundation in English and Mathematics. Additionally, I have acquired all the ethical requirements that further enhance my validation as an educator, such as Working With Children Check, NESA account and DoE number.
My tutoring philosophy is centred around creating a supportive and enriching learning environment. I believe in fostering open communication, encouraging active participation, and providing constructive feedback to help students reach their full potential. By establishing a strong rapport with my students, I am able to motivate them to engage with the material and take ownership of their learning journey.
