Undergraduate in Newcastle, teaches GCSE maths. Been both super ahead of class and also really far behind, so I can definitely relate to the student. Very typical asain mathematical background.

About Kellen
Hi! I’m Kellen Xu! I am a Stage 1 Pharmacy Student studying in Newcastle University. I come from a very typical asain background, No calculator, Full marks is not good enough, and A is for average.
Naturally I became very good at maths. “Top of the class as always”That was me! “I dunno this one, ask Kellen” that was also me! “Bet Kellen’s done it” I hear it all the time.
Great? Right?….
Yeah… Until…
“Your Grades aren’t looking very good” That was me
“How are you this far behind?”That was also me
“This is… really basic stuff…” Sorry that was still me.
I went from ahead of everyone, even the teacher, to miles behind everyone.
So I know what it’s like, doesn’t matter where in the class you are, I have been there, and I’m at university now, doing what I want. You can as well.
But I do wonder, what if I had someone to guide me during those times? Where will I be now? Well, we’ll find out. Won’t we?

My sessions are all about the student. I start by asking what topics they struggle on. Then we try a series of questions that usually causes a problem. Especially the ones where the student has all the skills they need to tackle the question, but is unable to see that they can. Then I’d start incorporating
1 What the student has told me they need more work on
2 Questions where they have the skills to answer, but due to something that’s easily fixable, they can’t
3 Other questions that they struggled on in the initial quiz
Into my next sessions.
Currently each session seems to last about an hour, however I am only teaching GCSEs as that’s where I got the 9 in.
