About Jude

My name is Jude and I am a native resident of Snohomish County with around a decade of junior high and above mathematics experience. I have a great passion for working with students and am strongly committed to supporting them through their academic struggles. I sympathize with every student having math and physics difficulties, as I, too, was in that same position. Yet with the right teachers who taught with the intent to inspire, these subjects have become passions of mine. I am dedicated to encouraging those around me and want all of my students to become successful. To be adept in mathematics requires not natural talent but the proper educator. I am eager to support you in your mathematics journey.

About the lesson

I will integrate a "listen to learn" approach into my tutoring sessions where the majority of my lessons involve listening with the intent to help my students. When I explain concepts to students, I ask them questions that will help them reason through the problem they are attempting. I do not believe in "jumping straight to the answer" as this only mars my students' confidence in their skills. I also believe that teaching information in small portions ultimately prompts a higher level of understanding.

A typical tutoring session will include a check-in period where I will ask my clients how they are doing and their highlights from the week. I will then proceed to ask what question(s) they would like to discuss and if there are any assignments that they are struggling with. Depending on the preference of the student, we will use white board space, math computer technology (including ALEKS and Khan Academy), or a table setting to discuss the material. If the session is on-line, then the share screen and white board settings will be used. At the discretion of the student, small breaks may be implemented to refocus and refresh.

The best part of the tutoring experience for me is making the lightbulbs go off. I believe that many tutors rush through lessons with the intent to supply information. Yet getting to see my students improve and develop enthusiasm for math and physics is what really makes my day. Building confidence and passion is what tutoring should really be about. This, I believe is what sets me apart from my fellow tutors.

I intend to target my lessons to junior-high, high school, and college students in one-on-one and small group settings.
