About Sofronis

My students have been Oscar and BAFTA nominated, whilst many of them go on to work for some of the best VFX, animation and games companies in the world.

I have been lucky enough to work for organisations that a broad and rewarding work environment within the computer graphics industry, in both film and games. I have overseen the development and delivery of undergraduate courses and postgraduate courses at Bournemouth University and several UK institutions where i was External Examiner. As well as maintaining a strong academic profile, I have excellent experience of working with or in the animation industry; having developed credit bearing courses for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, as a Softimage Trainer at Microsoft’s Lionhead Studios and employed as the Training Manager at Animal Logic in Sydney, as well Senior 3D artist atTreehouse Digital.

Recently, I worked at Treehouse Digital, on Duncan Jones' 'Rogue Trooper', whilst recently completing a 3D animation quadruped course.

About the lesson

With over 23 years of extensive experience in 3D computer animation, I am eager to share my expertise and provide support throughout various facets of your project. My in-depth knowledge of Autodesk Maya, combined with the multifaceted capabilities of Unreal Engine and Houdini, provides me with the skills to confidently tackle challenges effectively.

I possess a strong enthusiasm for animation methodologies, tools, and innovative pipelines, with a particular focus on non-linear and non-destructive techniques. My proficiency in character rigging, as well as lighting and shading using V-Ray, has enabled me to help students produce exceptional visual content.

Currently, I am actively engaged in the development of a curriculum focused on the Character FX pipeline, encompassing rigging, muscle simulation, cloth simulation, and grooming techniques. Furthermore, my seven years of experience with Unreal Engine have significantly enhanced my abilities in asset creation and pipeline integration. I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate on remarkable projects.
