About Alexander

As someone who did struggle in school but who received the guiding hand that led me to where I am today, I understand the need to get that outside help. However, becoming overly reliant on that help means that in the outside world, you would be largely unable to grow and learn. That is my core philosophy when teaching, to allow students to grow whilst also giving them the tools to do that independently.

About the lesson

Previously, I worked as a remote private tutor during the summer of 2021 which provided me with great first hand experience as well as the knowledge in how to handle students 1-on-1. In addition to this, I worked with the charity IntoUniversity in late 2019 and early 2020 which allowed me to teach children of all ages who live in more disadvantaged communities, a number of subjects at a variety of different levels. This gave me experience in not only teaching students from all age groups but also gave me the tools to handle a variety of social and personal issues the student is having which could be interfering with their education.

Lessons tend to last anywhere between 30 minutes - 2 hours (depending on each other's schedules) and I am comfortable meeting more than once a week. I have experience in teaching all levels of mathematics from KS1 to A-Levels and would be happy to teach students of any age.

All students receive a very personal guiding hand that gives them the necessary guidance to advance at school with my help but also to advance independently and to learn on their own time. The structure for each lesson will be dependent on their length, however, it will generally begin with a roundup of what we went through last week and their homework that I may have set them. This work will never be excessive as I understand the stresses of being a student without cumbersome extra work added to that. We will then move onto any work they have received from school and what they have gone over in those lessons. This will allow the student to engage more in the current curriculum but to also not fall behind in lessons. The session will end with a round-up of what we did this week and what I want the student to do for next week.
