About Aris

I recently graduated from University College London after studying Biochemical Engineering, and achieving a first class. Prior to this, I achieved 42 points (of a possible 45) in the International Baccalaureate, including a grade 7 in Higher Level Chemistry and Higher Level Biology and 6 in Higher Level Maths. Two years before that, I got eight grade 9s and 1 grade 8, as well as an A* distinction in Further Maths in my GCSE exams. I took part in multiple UK Maths Trust Challenges, and achieved gold in the 2016 Junior Challenge and 2017 Intermediate Challenge, and silver in the 2018 Intermediate Challenge and 2019 Senior Challenge. In terms of Chemistry, and in addition to two distinctions in KES end of year 8 and year 10 internal exams, I participated in the Top of The Bench Chemistry team competition in 2017, winning the regional event and representing the West Midlands in the national finals. In January 2020 I claimed silver in the Chemistry Olympiad and eight months after that, I was awarded the KES 2020 Maurice Finnemore Prize for Chemistry. These academic achievements not only result from deep knowledge of the subjects, but also from several years of exam practice and successful revision techniques.

About the lesson

I like Chemistry and Maths and I want to impart my love for both subjects to younger students. It has been 5 years since I was studying at school and therefore I can appreciate how challenging and frustrating it can be when there are knowledge gaps and/or lack of understanding. I am patient, enjoy explaining concepts in detail and believe that repetition and practice contribute to deep learning. I work at each student’s pace and ensure that any gaps in their knowledge are plugged as soon as possible. I tailor my teaching to individual needs, from grade enhancement to successful exam taking techniques. Each lesson is structured and based on topics that need to be covered, and is made engaging and interactive with the aid of presentations and quizzes. In terms of exam preparation, I set problems during every lesson to test and solidify knowledge and I use past papers and mark schemes to aid the students at giving answers that will get them as many marks as possible under exam conditions. There is no such thing as a silly question and I encourage students to ask when they don’t understand since this is all part of their learning curve. I am available to answer any enquiries by email.
