About Sona
Hi! I'm Sona! I'm currently an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, studying Physiology and Nutritional Science on the pre-med track. I’ve always had a passion for helping others learn, and I’ve been tutoring since high school. Teaching is something I truly enjoy, and I love seeing my students grow more confident with every session. Outside of academics, I’m a big fan of baking, arts and crafts, puzzles, and playing volleyball. This year, one of my personal goals is to meet new people and build meaningful connections — and that includes you! Whether you’re looking to strengthen your skills or just need a little extra support, I’m here to help. I believe learning should be engaging, supportive, and tailored to you, and that’s exactly what I aim to provide in every lesson!

As a tutor, I focus on creating a structured, student-centered learning environment that encourages curiosity, confidence, and independence. My methodology blends traditional instruction with active learning strategies, with the mindset of "practice makes perfect", ensuring students not only understand the material but also learn how to think critically and problem-solve on their own.
Teaching Methodology & Techniques:
I use what I call a “flipped-class” method: before each session, students are provided with materials to review the upcoming content. This allows our lessons to focus more on deepening understanding through discussion, guided practice, and problem-solving rather than passive instruction. This method helps students become more engaged and prepared, maximizing the value of each lesson.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Every lesson is planned in advance and shared with both students and parents. We begin by reviewing the goals and agenda for the session. From there, we work through key concepts and tackle practice problems together. I also leave time at the end of each lesson for students to ask questions, clarify doubts, and reflect on what they’ve learned.
What Sets Me Apart:
What differentiates me as a tutor is my commitment to communication, preparation, and adaptability. I customize lessons to suit each student’s learning style and pace, and I maintain open communication with parents to track progress and provide updates.
