About James
My background in Engineering, and still current study, demonstrates my understanding of high level mathematical and scientific theory, with appreciation of teaching methodology. My teaching experience, although shallow, reflects my composed and amiable personality; having taught both my younger brothers at an early age for 11+ exams to sixth form mentoring - helping younger students conquer their rocky first year - illustrates such. All people I have helped have passed their respective tests and I wish to make myself a better teacher by saying not only that, but that they all will achieve top grades in the future.

It's important to always recognize who you're teaching before starting with them (age is an undeniable modifier), with that being said it is good that I have taught different ages so I am adaptable to any child to young adult.
My method has the goal of ensuring the person understands the subject fully (this is often second to making sure they can 'answer questions' but ultimately leads to the person struggling with any question that isn't written in the form they have been accustomed to in an exam). To reach this aim I often feed the student context and allow as much discussion as possible on anything they are stuck on - doing so alleviates any doubts surrounding particular areas of a subject and helps them move on. With questions, I will provide my own and will gladly help with any they have. I will initially go through a simple question on a topic with them, ensuring they are up to speed, then will give them an intermediate question, provide feedback with notes and then set them a harder question (often above or at the apex of the specification required) - this will not only prepare them questions which they otherwise couldn't realistically prepare for but will ensure they have confidence in what they have learnt.
I do offer, equally, more relaxed sessions as well where we will go through an exam paper together or where I help construct ways of remembering definitions and case studies.
