About Emily
Hi, I’m Emily! I have just finished my mathematics-based masters degree, and would love to help other students achieve the same - I found great benefit from examination practice with private tutors at school, and so would love to provide the same to new students!

I have experience in teaching mathematics and science at GCSE level, as well as English for international students. My personal speciality subject is physics - specifically nuclear and particle physics - but I have taught all three hard sciences previously.
My lessons take the form of three stages:
1). Ask the student about any material which they would like to go over in greater detail - if something has been misinterpreted in class, or if any difficulty is had in understanding that base material. This is the time for ensuring a sound foundation of class material to draw from, before attempting any problems - avoiding overwhelming and upsetting the student. I like to have to students take a quick learning types test, so that the material may be taught in the most accessible way.
2). Select a number of examination past paper questions on a mixture of the topics brought up in Stage 1, as well as that material well-understood. Where possible, a mixture of question types are selected to exercise different forms of learning. The purpose of this is to tailor the plan to the specific student, and each tutoring session is informed by the last. The questions are performed at first with guidance as asked for, before another run-through with model answers.
3). The student is asked to answer each question again on their own, with the script then compared to the model answer. This informs further work needed in between sessions/in the next session.
