About Olivia

I can provide lessons in GCSE English Literature, English Language and History; A-Level History and Classical Civilisation; the History of Art more generally; and Oxbridge admissions advice for History of Art and other humanities subjects.

I am a second-year Art History student at the University of Cambridge passionate about visual culture and how works of art can convey the spirit, the history and the psychology of an age and its creators.

I discovered this passion through my A-Levels in History, Classical Civilisation and Fine Art, where I discovered how rewarding it is to analyse both written and visual sources. Since then, I have developed a particular appreciation for looking beyond what an artwork or text depicts, instead considering what it reveals about the people, ideas and societies that produced it.

As a tutor, I hope to inspire students to approach their subjects with the same curiosity, viewing sources as windows into the beliefs of the past. While I hope to help students achieve the results they desire, I also want to help them develop confidence and a genuine enjoyment for learning.

GRADES:

Grade 9s in History, English Literature and English Language for GCSE.

A*A*A for A-Levels.

About the lesson

Lessons are tailored to each student's needs. While the full breadth of the syllabus is always considered, sessions primarily focus on areas the student would like to strengthen, ensuring that our time has been valuable for them. I take time to understand their curriculum and present material in an engaging, accessible way that builds confidence and understanding. Alongside content, I provide personalised feedback on essays, focusing on exam technique, analytical skills, subject knowledge, and refinements for higher grades.

This approach is used for both GCSE and A-Level, with each lesson adapted to the student's learning style, needs and goals. Through targeted practice, repetition, constructive feedback, and consistent encouragement, students can expect to make meaningful progress and develop significant confidence in their abilities.

I also offer Oxbridge admission support, with particular expertise in History of Art, though the application process for many humanities follows a similar structure. These sessions can be taken independently or alongside GCSE or A-Level tuition. Support includes guidance on the admissions process, entrance exams, personal statements, super-curricular activities, and interview preparation.
