About Aaron
I'm a postgraduate student at the University of Cambridge, currently studying the MASt in Mathematics with Theoretical Physics. My academic focus is on advanced theoretical physics, including quantum field theory and string theory. Before Cambridge, I completed an undergraduate degree in mathematics and physics, with a strong record across pure mathematics, applied mathematics and theoretical physics.
I have several years of online tutoring experience working with high school and sixth-form students, primarily in mathematics and physics. I've supported students preparing for major exams and university entrance, as well as students looking to deepen their understanding of the subject. I've also worked with a number of neurodivergent students, including students on the autism spectrum, and I'm comfortable adapting my pace and explanation style to suit different learning needs.
Outside of academic work, I'm a long-time chess player, I competed at national level in New Zealand, and I bring the same problem-solving mindset to tutoring that I do to chess: patient, methodical, and focused on understanding the structure of a problem rather than rushing to an answer.

My lessons are tailored to each individual student — their current level, their goals, where they get stuck, and how they best learn. No two students get the same lesson plan.
I tutor sixth formers preparing for A-level Maths, Further Maths and Physics; students sitting STEP and MAT; and undergraduates working through real analysis, linear algebra, multivariable calculus, differential equations, classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics and special relativity. I also support IB Higher Level Maths students.
My approach is problem led. Rather than reciting bookwork, I work through real problems alongside the student, building intuition for why a method works before drilling the technique. For physics, I emphasise understanding the underlying principles so students can solve unfamiliar problems rather than memorising procedures.
Lessons are typically one hour and held online over Zoom or similar. Longer sessions are available by arrangement for exam practice or interview prep.
