About George
Hi, my name is George and I'm currently studying for a Masters in Chemistry at the University of St Andrews. I'm a second year undergraduate, but it is my first year in St Andrews because my A-Levels allowed me to skip the first year of the course. I am really enjoying the Uni experience, and absolutely love my course - even though sometimes it is real hard work. To get away from the work, I'm often out partying - everyone needs a break from work sometimes!
As my A-Levels will testify to, I am an academically able and understanding student - I know only too well the stress and strains of taking exams. I'm a very open and respected person among my friends - many of them use me for advice both inside of academia and outside - which is all useful in teaching. I have previous 1-on-1 tutoring experience, tutoring 4 people for a period of around 6 months, in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Following my sessions, they all exceeded their target grades in their final exams. My best accomplishment to date is taking a German Exchange student, for a period of 8 months, from UUU to AAA in his final exams (I taught him both the AS and A-Level content in less than a year for him to take his exams - his targets were CCC). I also have a few additional perks as a tutor: I am an exam-based question writer for Physics & Maths tutor.

The structure I will use for lessons will be much like the style I used when teaching in my school. In the main, I will progress through the syllabus in chronological order, targeting areas of both strength and weakness to overall develop your knowledge of the subject.
The lesson plan obviously is student dependent, but each 1 hour session will tend to be make up of the following
40-50mins of core teaching content - This will be giving the required notes, and asking questions which compliment the notes being given. I can also provide my own revision notes if you would like them.10mins of exam-style questions - This is so key to lessons as exam technique is crucial. I am pleased to say I believe I have a great exam technique, which I will convey to you within the lessons. Doing these styles of questions in lessons will make exams much less stressful and far more enjoyable, yes I actually said exams can be enjoyable!
I will also aim to provide homework questions - not too many don't worry, I'm not a massive believer in loads of homework - that can be attempted outside of the tutorials. If you have an exam paper you've completed, or school homework questions, I'm also happy to work through those (I will have all of the worked answers to the exam papers for Chemistry, Physics and Maths because I did them all whilst studying for my A-Level).
