About Arlyn

With six years of experience as a teacher's aide and nearly 300 hours of community service over the past three years, I have developed a strong foundation in education, mentorship, and service. As a student at the University High School on the California State University, Fresno campus, I have completed advanced coursework in subjects including Honors Physics and Chemistry, Dual Enrollment Biology and Zoology, AP Language and Composition, Dual Enrollment World History, AP Calculus AB and BC, and AP Music Theory, maintaining a 4.625 GPA. My time at UHS has also allowed me to engage in meaningful community initiatives, such as co-leading a Heart Health Heroes project, where I worked with a small team to teach elementary students across Fresno about the importance of cardiovascular health. In addition to my academic and service background, I am an advanced violinist with a deep appreciation for classical music, which has taught me patience, discipline, and attention to detail—qualities I bring to every tutoring session!

About the lesson

To begin with, after having become acquainted with the student, I create a lesson plan specifically suited for the student's needs based on what understanding the student already has. Throughout the lesson, I incorporate visual, auditory, read/write, and kinesthetic resources and aids which I have found helpful in my learning journey. The lessons are tailored to people in elementary or junior high school, even though as a high-schooler, I am not much older. Nevertheless, this is a strength: as CS Lewis says, "The fellow-pupil can help more than the master because he knows less. The difficulty we want him to explain is one he has recently met. The expert met it so long ago that he has forgotten" (1958).
