About Derrick
I am a specialized Computer Science and Mathematics instructor with a background in university-level education and legacy system architecture. My teaching philosophy is built on a simple premise: complex subjects aren't difficult because you aren't smart enough; they are difficult because the foundational logic wasn't explained clearly. My experience includes serving as a Lab Instructor at Wright State University for the Computer Organization and Architecture course—one of the most rigorous technical subjects in the CS curriculum. In that role, I guided university students through the "Iron" of computing: Assembly language, registers, and the critical bridge between hardware and software. I learned exactly where students get stuck and, more importantly, how to get them unstuck. Beyond the classroom, I am a practitioner of both modern and legacy computing. From building AI-driven applications in Python to understanding the enduring power of COBOL and Mainframe systems, I offer a full-spectrum perspective that most generalist tutors cannot match. Whether you are a university student fighting to pass your architecture exams, or an adult learner looking to master the logic of programming, I provide a structured, patient, and professional environment where we focus on mastery, not just memorization. I know how to explain registers, memory, and assembly language to students who are struggling.
