About Gabriel
Hi!
I'm Gabe, a maths enthusiast and a physics student studying at the University of Manchester entering my third year. I am very interested in quantum mechanics and computational physics and hope to do research in one of these fields.
In the beginning, I didn't have a good relationship with mathematics. In year 10 my predicted grade for mathematics was a 4 (low C) and I struggled to keep up in the classroom. However, one day I became determined to turn this around and after a lot of trial and error in finding an efficient method to understand this subject I finished my GCSEs with an 8 (A*). I found my passion and it was in mathematics. From here I took A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics and graduated with A*s in both.
Learning the beauty of mathematics changed my life, it opened doors for me that I didn't even know existed and it helped me excel in my other subjects too.
I want to debunk the misconception that mathematics is a subject only for geniuses and you have to be a certain somebody to understand it. Anyone can do it :)

First of all, I am a strong believer that anyone can do mathematics. No matter what level you are at now, being inquisitive and consistent will allow anyone to develop a mathematical way of thinking.
Second of all, I always want my students to recognise that mathematics is not about regurgitating formulas and equations, instead it is about using logic, intuition and creativity to solve a problem.
Being someone who has recently graduated from their GCSEs and A-Levels, I understand what the examiners look for when marking and the style of questions they may present.
The lesson plans are as followed:
1. Presenting the theory and explaining it to the student, normally by using modern-day examples in ways that a student would understand.
2. Applying the theory then lots of problems for the student to attack.
- At any point in the lesson, students are encouraged to specify topics or questions that they are finding difficult in order to maximise their learning in the lesson.
-Online lessons will be done over Google Hangouts or Zoom with the use of screen share and virtual whiteboards.
My lessons are designed for students with all abilities, from needing help building the basics to wanting to explore the beauty of mathematics.
A typical lesson is an hour but duration changes can be changed to the student's preference.
My own maths teacher would say "you don't study maths, you do maths!" and this quote has resonated well with me as it is the reason for my academic success.
