About Joyce
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my teaching background. I am a University Mathematics Professor and Curriculum Designer with extensive experience teaching Algebra, Precalculus, and Calculus at both the high school and college levels. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of helping students build confidence, strengthen their understanding, and achieve meaningful academic progress. My teaching style is both structured and encouraging. I believe that every student is capable of mastering mathematics when concepts are explained clearly and patiently. I take the time to understand each learner’s needs and tailor my instruction to support their individual strengths, challenges, and goals. My background in curriculum development allows me to present material in a logical, accessible way that helps students feel grounded and capable—even when tackling difficult topics. I strive to create a positive and respectful learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring new ideas, and developing their skills at a pace that works for them. My approach combines professionalism with genuine care for each student’s success. I want learners to not only improve their grades, but also leave our sessions feeling more confident and prepared for future courses. It would be my pleasure to support you on your academic journey. If you are seeking a knowledgeable, patient, and reliable math instructor, I look forward to working together.

As a University Mathematics Professor and Curriculum Designer, I help upper high school and college students build true mastery in Algebra, Precalculus, and Calculus. My teaching approach goes beyond traditional tutoring — I provide high-level academic coaching designed to strengthen problem-solving skills, deepen understanding, and dramatically improve performance in rigorous math courses.
My Teaching Approach....
Students learn best when concepts are clear, logical, and connected. I teach using a structured, research-based method that includes:
Concept-first instruction that demystifies difficult ideas
Strategic breakdowns of problems so students understand the “why” behind every step
Active learning and guided reasoning, not rote memorization
Immediate, targeted feedback that builds confidence and independence
My goal is not just to help students pass a class — it’s to help them think mathematically and excel long after our sessions end.
What a Lesson With Me Looks Like...
Each session is tailored to the individual student, and typically includes:
Targeted assessment of current understanding
Focused instruction on the core concept or skill gap
Live problem modeling with clear explanations
Guided practice that reinforces techniques and strategies
Independent mastery tasks to confirm understanding
A personalized study plan for continued progress
Students consistently leave sessions feeling more confident, capable, and prepared.
What Sets Me Apart....
University Professor Experience: I teach the same subjects at the college level and know what top-performing students do differently.
Curriculum Designer Expertise: I design math curriculum, which means I understand how to structure learning for maximum clarity and retention.
Mastery-Driven Coaching: I specialize in moving students from “I’m confused” to “I understand this deeply.”
Proven Success With High-Achieving Students: Ideal for students preparing for STEM majors, competitive programs, or advanced coursework.
Calm, patient, and supportive approach: I explain concepts in multiple ways until they truly click.
My students often tell me that math finally makes sense for the first time.
Who My Lessons Are Best For....
I work with motivated:
Upper high school students taking Algebra II, Precalculus, or AP Calculus AB/BC
College students in College Algebra, Precalculus, Calculus I, Calculus II
Engineering and STEM-intent students who need strong foundations
Adult learners returning to math after a long break
Students who struggle with confidence and want a structured, supportive learning environment
Whether you're aiming to raise your grades, prepare for STEM coursework, or gain real confidence in mathematics, my lessons are designed to deliver high-level mastery and long-lasting results.
