About Angel Yuxuan
I am a confident Mathematics and Science tutor who is extremely passionate about teaching the techniques in these subjects to others.
I grew up in New Zealand and completed my International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma at St Cuthbert's College in Auckland in 2014. My final IB score was 42 (equirvalent of ATAR 99), including 7/7 in HL Mathematics.
I studied Biomedicine followed by Dentistry at the Unversity of Melbourne during the years 2015-2021, and continued working part-time as a private tutor during this time. I have worked for a year as a graduate dentist in Melbourne, but still have a strong passion for tutoring.
In my spare time I like to work as volunteer and give back to the community, such as being involved in bucket collections, helping out at events, and visiting elderly people.
I also play the piano and ukulele.

TUTORING EXPERIENCE:
I have taught in Melbourne as a private tutor since 2015. I have helped students from grades 7-12 with their studies in both VCE and IB mathematics.
In year 12, I was hired as a Maths tutor and taught a weekly class of seven students who were studying Cambridge IGCSE and NCEA level 1 from various school in Auckland, New Zealand.
During high school, I also volunteered as a Mathex Coach and ran weekly tutorials.
TEACHING APPROACH:
I believe that the best way of learning a concept is by grasping a genuine understanding of it. The most frequent feedback I hear from my students (and peers) is that I am able to explain these concepts in a way they can understand and relate to, rather than forcing them to memorize it without knowing its real purpose. Having been there myself, I am able to tell when a student just nods mindlessly, being too intimidated to ask for a clearer explanation. In these cases, I'd patiently approach the problem in a different way - either through diagrams, using objects, or real-life situations that they can relate to. Only when I hear the final "OOOOOOOHH," and the excitement in the student's voice, do I move on to the next question. This sound has never failed to give me a real sense of accomplishment as it always makes me happy to know that I have made someone genuinely understand a concept.
I also believe in rewarding students for their hard work - wether if its a small chocolate bar, or even just a compliment. As small as it may sound, I believe this is essential for the students' confidence, which will encourage them to achieve better results - again, I am speaking from experience as I am truly grateful for the teacher that praised me for hard work, as that enabled me to achieve my goals today.
Finally, I believe in placing myself in the student's position and seeing the problem from their point of view in order to find out what they are really troubled by. I believe this enables efficiency and a genuine understanding of the concept.
