My teaching methods are very positive reinforcement-based! I used to HATE practicing my instrument and I experience severe stage fright, even in lessons. I also greatly struggled with sight-reading. Because I love to perform, I had to overcome all of this (and still use strategies to continually ensure that I am not impeded). Fortunately, this experience helps me understand where students are coming from and give them the confidence and tools they need to succeed!
I am a sophomore Music minor at UNC Chapel Hill with eight years of saxophone experience and ten years of music experience. I have performed in the NC All-State Band twice and, in 2018, attended the NC Governor's School for Instrumental Music. I also studied under acclaimed saxophonist Dr. Ian Jeffress of Western Carolina University. I specialize in alto and soprano saxophone but I also play the tenor saxophone in the UNC Marching Tar Heels!
I will charge a flat rate of $15/hr per student (mostly because I have to pay rent)! As long as you cancel within 10 hours of your lesson, you will not be charged (unless it is an emergency, in which case I understand and am happy to waive the cost). Students will be responsible for purchasing their own method books, although I am happy to scan/send over any pieces or exercises from my own books if students are intermediate/advanced level (this will be decided in the lesson). I am excited to work with anyone regardless of skill level! If students prefer lessons to be half an hour, I will charge $8. I look forward to working with you!
