About Gwendolen
I read BA History at New College, Oxford, where I became a Scholar having achieved a First and scoring the highest in my Prelims. I am currently studying for a Masters in British & European History, 1700-1850, at Christ Church, Oxford.
I specialise in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, as well as political, diplomatic, gender, art and music history, but I have sound knowledge of medieval and modern history, too.

My lessons are personalised to each student, encouraging their strengths and interests, and giving them extra boosts in areas where they struggle. I aim to pass on my love for history, and this reflects in my passionate, engaged teaching style. I like to ask open ended, thought provoking questions like those asked in Oxford tutorials in order to stretch my students to reach their best potential, and to help them develop exciting approaches and conclusions to historical questions.
I help my students with understanding content and analysing sources. I also spend time teaching the best ways to write history essays at a high academic level, which ranges from structure to style. For this, I provide a handout on writing introductions, structuring paragraphs and the best language to use for describing causes and consequences, based on my own experience and from advice given to me by the very best historians at Oxford.
I also provide great insight and advice in writing high quality, standout personal statements and on preparing for the HAT and interviews at Oxford and Cambridge, advice and insight that is greatly valued coming from a rural state school background.
