About Amanda
Equitable, asset-based teaching practices are central to my identity as an educator. Throughout my career as an educator, students have noted their appreciation for my flexibility, inclusivity, and empathy for students. I recently won a tutoring award for volunteer work with adults seeking to pass the GED Math exam. I have a Ph.D. focused on mathematics education, an Ivy League Master’s degree in mathematics for teaching, and 20 years of experience. Tutoring is a joyful way for me to directly teach math to students (versus teacher education where I focus most of my professional efforts).

As someone who teaches teachers how to teach math, tutoring allows me to “practice what I preach” directly with students. My experience includes teaching high school math, teaching K-12 teachers how to teach math, tutoring my friends’ high school children online, online tutoring for the GED math exam, and helping my own kids with their math. Available to tutor for all K-12 math, introductory college math courses, and math test prep. Ongoing or on-demand tutoring with flexible schedule, though I limit tutoring to about 4 total hours per week. Research and experience tell me that ANYONE can learn mathematics, it’s just a matter of matching the approach to the person. My lessons are tailored to your needs and prior understanding. Some options might include: -Preparing for a test or quiz -Reviewing skills you’ve forgotten or never really understood -Additional support for a chapter/unit/topic with which you’re struggling -Ongoing tutoring throughout a semester or class term I will not do your homework for you, but I’ll gladly help you make sense of the math so you can successfully do it yourself!
