About Jianing
I am a postgraduate TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) student from the University of Queensland with a GPA of 5.9 out of 7. I have been working for the Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education as a conversational volunteer since last year to get international learners prepared for university study. I have helped out those who have been struggling with their cultural shock and language barriers as I did. Therefore, I have empathy with and the ability to communicate with students, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds. My IELTS band score is 8, so I can also provide instructions on the IELTS test.

My teaching methods are mainly Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT). The nature of CLT is to develop learners’ communicative competence while TBLT is defined as a strong form of CLT where learners can experience the process of using language in TBLT classroom tasks. Thus, I base my classes on classroom tasks including brainstorming, group discussion, role-plays etc. based on a specific topic. I approach the topic by using pictures or videos, brainstorming or drawing on personal experiences. In terms of IELTS (Academic) coaching, English for academic purposes would be used to help learners better understand how IELTS works.
