About Lucian
My name is Lucian, I'm a 1st year university student in UCD, and I'm a fluent French speaker. I lived in Brussels, in Belgium, for all of my teenage years, which is where I learned French. I came back to Ireland two years ago, and picked French as one of my subjects for the Leaving Cert. While I was in 5th year I gave grinds to Junior Cert students in my school, but stopped during 6th year as I wanted to focus on my leaving. In the summer of 5th year I did the DELF exams as a form of revision. I also currently give grinds to a 6th year Chemistry student.

In my experience the majority of Leaving Cert French students don't have a grasp of the basics of French, and have difficulties constructing sentences. Classes would have a heavy focus on improving the written aspect of a student's French, in particular the use of the various tenses and how and when to use them. Another key aspect of the L.C French exam is the oral. 25% of the exam goes to the oral, and the improvement of the oral greatly helps the aural exam as well. I'd aim for the lessons to be around an hour, so that sufficient time can be spent on both written and spoken French. I have found this to be the best way to study, as that's the way I studied for my own exam and got a H1. I studied the same way for certain external French exams such as the DELF B1 + B2, and it also resulted in successes. I can give lessons to Higher and Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate Students or Junior Cert students.

Me and Lucian went to the same secondary school, and he gave me grinds for JC french. I was really struggling with it, and thanks to him I ended up getting a higher merit when I was failing at the start of the year. He really helped me improve my oral french which is doing me a world of good for the leaving
