About Neil
The biggest thing about me is I love to learn. Whether it be doing my formal education at university, watching random documentaries, or reading up on the daily news, I am a nerd at heart. By studying Software Engineering, I also love to code and work on my personal projects on the side of whatever wacky idea I come up with.
If you catch me outside and away from my computer, I will most likely be on a court of some sort. Whether it be tennis or badminton, I have played both sports since I was young and still play to this day.
I am also a keen volunteer and give back to the community in any way I can. In particular, my volunteering is mostly environmental based and there is no tree planting and releasing that you can keep me away from.

Having tutored many students regularly in my previous experience, I have learnt that having lessons championed by both the student and myself, as the tutor, is key to having effective lessons.
Lessons are typically an hour (flexible according to the student's needs) and I start the lesson with a quick catchup on what has happened since the previous lesson. Then we together set goals on what we want to achieve in the next hour. With tutoring, I tend to ask questions to assert the retention of the content, help fill any knowledge gaps, and work through the questions together and set any questions for later that I believe they can work on by themselves.
I have been a contracting private tutor for a company for the past two years and have tutored students from as young as Year 3 to many in their last year of high school in Year 13. I also tutor at the university at the 100-level.
I have always been a keen learner myself so tutoring is certainly a passion of mine. My academic achievements include earning the Top Subject Awards in all six of my NCEA Level 3 subjects and earning the Dux Award.
This means that my lessons can cater for whatever age or type of student you may be.
