About Michaela
I am a graduate from the University of Toronto, where I completed my MA in Art History. I also have a BA in Classical Studies with a minor in Philosophy and Anthropology from the University of Waterloo. My academic research has focused on ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt, as well as Early Modern Europe. The bulk of my research has involved the use of art as a political, social, and economic tool, gender roles in the ancient world, and the cross-cultural exchange of traditions and artistic expression.
I have three years of experience as a professional academic editor, where I provide detailed writing feedback to university students. I also have 3 years of experience as a subject-specific tutor, helping my students understand concepts, prepare for tests, and structure papers. I love history, the humanities, and writing, and I hope to provide you with the skills and abilities to not only improve your academic standing but to help you enjoy your studies!

Learning is a lifelong pursuit; we all learn at different paces and by using different methods. I recognize that the conventional approaches to education do not suit the needs of every individual, so it is my aim to provide you with skills and a plan to best suit your learning needs. Whether you need help preparing for a test, are struggling to understand concepts, require a second set of eyes for a paper you're working on, or are feeling a bit lost on where to start with your research, I am able to provide resources and support for you. As a writing editor, I offer an approach that focuses on cultivating essay writing skills and providing thorough feedback as opposed to simply proofreading. This strategy aims to teach you the necessary skills to write excellent essays in the future. As a tutor, I offer advanced knowledge and research skills in topics such as anthropology, history, art history, classical studies, archaeology, and philosophy. Approaching primary sources can be daunting, so I aim to provide you with the resources to make research and studying exciting (or at least not painful!). I am available to discuss concepts you are struggling with or to provide you with additional resources to improve your understanding and/or fuel your curiosity! I am available to teach a variety of subjects and levels of education; however, my experience is mainly focused on university level and grade 11-12 subjects.

During my undergraduate and master's degrees, Michaela has acted as a great sounding board for my ideas, helped me formulate research questions and concepts, and helped me write concise papers that stay on point. She has aided me in understanding complex subjects outside my primary field in easy to understand ways that have enriched my learning and made exploring new topics enjoyable and exciting. She has also been invaluable in reading drafts of papers, pointing out gaps in content and making suggestions for improvement and clarity. As I begin my Ph.D., I will continue to ask Michaela for feedback on my research and always ask her to proofread my work.
