About Ollie
I am a first-year Philosophy student at the University of Warwick. Whilst I no longer study English Literature, it was always my favourite subject at school, from GCSEs to A-levels (my mental arithmetic is horrifically bad). I am a big fan of dystopian literature. A personal favourite is the Cyberpunk classic Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. The only non-fiction book I've ever actually enjoyed is Anthony Bourdain's autobiography, Kitchen Confidential. Outside of academia, I like rock climbing and going to the Pub!

While I am new to formal tutoring, I have experience helping classmates and peers understand difficult topics, and I focus on being approachable, patient, and clear in my explanations. I understand how stressful exam season can be, and I hope to offer practical, thoughtful advice on how students can survive it and succeed in their exams.
Each lesson starts with a chat with the student to determine what we will be trying to do. Once we set out our objectives together, we proceed with the work. Every student has different needs; some need more direct guidance, others need to be given free rein to experiment with their own ideas. My overarching goal with every student is to give them confidence. This, of course, involves imparting useful skills to them but also making sure they have a positive mindset when it comes to approaching things on their own. A simple yet effective method is to always find something to praise in the student's work, and something to constructively criticise.
