About Sophie

Hi! I'm Sophie, a recent graduate from the Software Engineering program at the University of Waterloo. I attended the TOPS (Talented Offerings for Programs in the Sciences) program during high school with a 98% average, and received offers from all engineering, mathematics, and computer science programs I applied to in Canada, including Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Waterloo, Engineering Science at UofT, and Computer Science at UBC.

Outside of school, I love to travel. I've worked 6 different internships as a Software Engineer, leading me to live in places like Vancouver and New York City. I spent a semester abroad in Madrid when I traveled all over Europe, and I just got back from a tour across Asia! I also love drawing, reading, and trying out new recipes :)

About the lesson

Technology is becoming part of almost every aspect of daily life, but it can be overwhelming if you've never had the chance to learn the fundamentals. My goal is to help students build confidence with technology through clear, patient, and hands-on lessons that focus on practical skills they can use every day.

Lessons are personalized to each student's experience and goals. We begin with the basics, like understanding how computers work, navigating Windows or macOS, organizing files, and using the internet safely, before moving on to topics like email, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, smartphones, video calls, cloud storage, social media, and artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT. Every lesson includes real-world practice so students gain confidence by doing, not just watching.

Rather than memorizing steps, I explain why things work the way they do, making it easier to solve new problems independently. I encourage questions, move at a comfortable pace, and adapt each lesson to the student's needs. Whether you're learning technology for work, school, travel, or everyday life, my goal is to make technology feel approachable, useful, and even enjoyable.

These lessons are ideal for complete beginners, seniors, adults looking to improve their digital skills, or anyone who wants to become more comfortable using computers, smartphones, and modern technology. No prior experience is required - just curiosity and a willingness to learn!
