About Jon
I have recently graduated from the University of Warwick with ambitions to start a Ph.D. in Physics. I received an average of a first in the Maths modules I completed during my degree and a high 2.1 in my Physics modules; I received an Upper-Second Class overall. The modules I chose to study over the course of my degree were taken to simultaneously challenge myself academically and also to allow myself to have knowledge of a wide scope of subjects in order to be a more competent teacher. Multivariable calculus, matrices and operators, statistics, modelling, and linear regression are some of the mathematical concepts I enjoy teaching.
At Sixth Form I used to spend most of my free periods in the atrium revising when someone in the year below approached me for help with some maths questions. After I helped them understand the concept, they asked if I could give them more lessons to which I agreed. This was my first taste of tutoring, and it felt great to be able to help someone understand a difficult concept.
Fast forward to my second year of university, where I found myself on a Physics social with students from the years below. I offered to tutor some of them, and three of them agreed. During my time as a university tutor, I was able to hone my teaching skills and share my passion for Maths and Physics with others. Being able to see my tutees make progress and gain confidence in their abilities was incredibly rewarding.

I have been told by some of my professors and many of my peers that I have a natural aptitude for problem-solving and explaining how to solve problems to other people. Studying computer science at A-Level and doing a Physics with Astrophysics degree has helped me to develop a computational way of tackling problems: deconstructing complex problems into their fundamental components, and subsequently assembling them to illuminate their collective impact on the broader context. I teach my students to recognise and utilise this technique; making sure that the individual understands more minor aspects of the problem to see how each of these parts combines to solve the problem as a whole. I believe in teaching through conversation, delving into Scientific and Mathematical conversation with the student in order to help them to develop an academic mindset.
I have a PGCE + QTS and currently teach Physics full-time. Overall, my 2 years classroom teaching experience and my 7 years of online tutoring experience has been a positive one; I enjoy what I do and my students score high on their tests. I also have a 100% student exam pass rate with .
