About Amos
For the past 12 years, I have focused on teaching American Sign Language (ASL) to help people communicate better and be more inclusive. My main aim is to create an environment where everyone, no matter their background or abilities, can connect and understand each other through ASL. As a volunteer and tutor, I have helped people who are deaf and couldn't attend regular special schools. I taught them ASL so they could communicate with others, and I also helped them with reading and writing. I have also assisted their parents, siblings, and friends to communicate with and understand them. I have organized after-school classes for the deaf to support them with their assignments and more.

My teaching methodology is rooted in a student-centred approach that emphasizes interactive learning, cultural immersion, and the practical application of ASL. I employ a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate different learning styles and proficiency levels:
Immersive Learning: I create an immersive environment where students are encouraged to use ASL exclusively during lessons. This approach helps students to think and communicate in ASL, fostering fluency and confidence.
Visual and Kinesthetic Techniques: Given the visual and physical nature of ASL, I incorporate a range of visual aids, gestures, and body language exercises. These techniques help students to better understand and remember signs and concepts.
Cultural Integration: Understanding Deaf culture is an integral part of learning ASL. I integrate cultural lessons into my curriculum, including the history of ASL, Deaf community norms, and Deaf literature and arts. This holistic approach enriches students' learning experiences and promotes cultural sensitivity.
Interactive Activities: To make learning engaging and effective, I use interactive activities such as role-playing, group discussions, storytelling, and sign language games. These activities not only make learning fun but also encourage active participation and collaboration among students.
Technology and Resources: I leverage technology to enhance the learning experience, utilizing online platforms, video resources, and ASL apps. These tools provide students with additional practice opportunities and access to a wealth of ASL content outside of the classroom.
Throughout my career, I have taught a wide range of ASL courses, from beginner to advanced levels, catering to different age groups and professional backgrounds.
My subject expertise includes:
Basic ASL Vocabulary and Grammar: Laying the foundation for effective communication in ASL.
Conversational ASL: Developing fluency and confidence in everyday interactions.
Advanced ASL: Focusing on complex sentence structures, idiomatic expressions, and nuanced communication.
ASL for Specific Purposes: Tailoring lessons for professionals such as interpreters, educators, healthcare providers, and customer service representatives.
Deaf Culture and History: Providing an in-depth understanding of the Deaf community's rich heritage and contributing.

Amos is indeed an amazing ASL tutor with years of experience. What I find most interesting about his teaching methods is his ability to explain difficult concepts in the simplest form possible and his use of examples to teach.
He is highly recommended. We met in a voluntary service of helping the deaf and hearing impaired.
He is really detailed.I highly recommend Amos as an American Sign Language teacher. He is patient, clear, and very supportive, which makes learning ASL comfortable even for complete beginners. He explains signs step-by-step and always makes sure his students understand before moving on.
What really stands out is his calm teaching style and encouragement. He creates a learning space where students are not afraid to make mistakes, which is very important when learning a visual language like ASL. He is also reliable, well-prepared for lessons, and truly cares about his students’ progress.
If you are looking for an ASL teacher who is skilled, kind, and professional, Amos is an excellent choice.View more recommendations
