About Yehyun

Having been born in South Korea and immigrating to Canada in 2014, I bring a multicultural perspective and a strong sense of adaptability to different environments. Holding both Canadian and Korean citizenship, I have had the opportunity to experience diverse cultures, which has broadened my understanding of global perspectives. Living in close proximity to the Finch, I am familiar with the community and am eager to contribute to its educational initiatives.

I have always had a passion for helping and teaching others, particularly in the field of computer science. Recently, I had the opportunity to serve as a Mentor and Teaching Assistant at Canada Learning Code, a non-profit organization. During this time, I assisted in teaching the course “JavaScript for the Web,” which involved instructing students on the document object model (DOM) using JavaScript. This experience allowed me to develop strong communication and mentoring skills, as well as a deep understanding of how to adapt technical concepts to suit different learning styles.

Additionally, I have served as a voluntary worker at the Young Nak and Light Presbyterian Church’s Leadership Camp for two consecutive summers. In this role, I had the responsibility of caring for and teaching younger children various activities. This experience enabled me to cultivate strong leadership abilities, while also emphasizing the importance of fostering a supportive and nurturing environment. I believe that my caring nature, combined with my ability to empathize and understand the feelings of others, will greatly contribute to creating a positive learning atmosphere for the youth in your program.

Academically, I have demonstrated consistent high-level performance throughout my education. I graduated from Silverthorn Collegiate Institute with a grade 12 best 6 average of 98.6%. My coursework in computer science, English, and mathematics further enhanced my problem-solving and analytical skills. I have received numerous awards for my academic achievements, including four Honour Awards for High-Level Academic Achievement in Grades 9-12, as well as three Achievement Awards for Self-Discipline, Altruism, and Perseverance. These accolades highlight my dedication, responsibility, and commitment to personal growth.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I am detail-oriented and beginner-friendly. I have a strong analytical background in computer science and math from the University of Toronto. My lessons are tailored to the individual needs of my students.

My approach as a tutor is to share my knowledge in a way that is accessible and engaging for my students. I use a variety of teaching methodologies and techniques to ensure that my lessons are effective and enjoyable. A typical lesson plan might include a review of previous material, an introduction to new concepts, and plenty of opportunities for practice and feedback. What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to connect with my students and help them achieve their goals. My lessons are suitable for students of all levels and backgrounds, and I am always happy to tailor my approach to meet the specific needs of each individual student.
