About Pedro

Hi! I'm Pedro, a Chemical Engineering student at the University of Toronto. I've been tutoring math and English for a few years now, and it's something I genuinely enjoy.

I have a Silver Medal from the Brazilian Math Olympiad (top 106 out of 18 million participants) and a Gold Medal in the Brazilian Astronomy Olympiad, so I'm comfortable going deep on advanced material. But what I'm most proud of is that six of my eight tutoring students earned competitive scholarships: that's the kind of result that matters to me.

My approach is relaxed and patient. I don't believe in making students feel bad for not knowing something: that's just not how learning works. Every session is tailored to where you are and where you want to get to.

I'm also fluent in Portuguese and speak Spanish at an advanced level, so I'm happy to tutor in any of the three languages if that helps.

About the lesson

I start every new student by first understanding who and where they are in their learning journey. Once I have a sense of that, lessons are built around them specifically, not a generic plan.

A typical session starts with whatever's been confusing them lately, then we work through problems together. I don't just show the solution — I ask questions and get them doing the reasoning. We finish with some independent practice so I can see what's working and what needs further reinforcement.

I have a Silver Medal from the Brazilian Math Olympiad (top 100 out of 18 million participants), a gold Medal from the Brazilian Astronomy Olympiad, and over a year of tutoring experience. Six of my eight students earned competitive scholarships. So I'm comfortable with advanced material, but I've also learned how to actually explain it.

I also tutor in Portuguese and Spanish if that's useful.
