About John
I obtained my Diploma of Languages in 2020 whilst obtaining my BSc at Unimelb. During this time, I also volunteered at my old high school as a teaching assistant during my first two years as a student to consolidate what I've come to know about Japanese as a non-native speaker.
Growing up around Japanese people with an interest in linguistics has helped optimise strategies that helps me become a better student of the language.
My Diploma of Languages consist of 'Reading Japanese Literature',
'Variation in Japanese Language', 'Japanese Grammar in Action', 'Japanese through the Media', and Japanese 5-8.
Currently, I am studying Masters of Mechanical Engineering with Business at the same university, and I'm hoping to take my N1 JLPT test by the start of 2022.
I also have experience in Tutoring in Japanese 1-4 (University Level).
For foreigners, VCE is an Australian standard [in the state of Victoria] equivalent to Yr. 11 and 12 at the High School Level.

As a non-native speaker, it is hard to break that barrier of intuition without the necessary experience to know what 'feels' right or wrong. Years of trying to figure this out gives me a unique perspective, to the point even my former (Native) Japanese teacher took elements of my process to help students to better grasp the language.
My methodology extends to not only the fundamental grammatical structure, but learning how to better filter the correct vocabulary and speech patterns to build on this 'foreigner's intuition'.
