About My Teaching Approach
As a jazz pianist with a Master’s degree from USC Thornton School of Music, I offer a well-rounded and flexible teaching style that adapts to each student’s goals, whether you're learning for fun or preparing for serious music studies.
Teaching Method & Techniques
My approach blends strong foundational skills with creativity and personal expression. I focus on technique, rhythm, voicing, improvisation, and ear training—especially in jazz—but I also teach classical repertoire, pop/keyboard styles, and music theory. I use a mix of method books, custom exercises, and real music to keep lessons engaging and practical.
Typical Lesson Plan
Each lesson usually includes:
Warm-up and technique
Repertoire or improvisation work (based on your goals)
Music theory or ear training integration
Creative exercises (like composing, comping, or improvising)
Lessons are personalized—whether you’re preparing for a school audition, exploring jazz harmony, or just beginning your piano journey.
What Sets Me Apart
As a bilingual Korean-English speaker, I support students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles. I’ve worked with students of all ages—from young beginners to adult learners—and I bring patience, encouragement, and clarity to every session. I also understand the challenges of studying music in a second language and can help guide non-native speakers with confidence.

Olivia is a passionate and trustworthy piano teacher. Her lessons are always well-prepared and tailored to each student’s level. She creates a warm and comfortable atmosphere, making learning enjoyable. I confidently recommend her to anyone.
I started doing lessons with Olivia not too long ago and I am glad I didn't go to anyone else. I can tell that she genuinely loves piano and that she loves to teach. I'm a beginner so I felt a bit nervous at first but she was so kind and patient that I was able to feel comfortable quickly. She was able to help me grow in skill but also helped me grow my musical mind. I am so thankful and would recommend Olivia everyone!
