About Muhammad Samad

My name is Muhammad Samad, and I am completing a combined major in Physics and Computer Science at the University of Victoria. I have a strong academic record, including A and A+ results in introductory physics, electricity and magnetism, experimental physics, mathematics and programming.

My background combines laboratory experiments, computer simulations, scientific data analysis and software development. I received a Rising Star Award at the NASA Space Apps Challenge and have experience leading a technical team, managing complex projects and communicating clearly with people from different backgrounds.

Over the years, I have helped peers understand challenging academic concepts by breaking them into clear, manageable steps. I am patient, dependable and committed to providing a respectful, encouraging and judgment-free learning environment. Students can expect well-prepared lessons, explanations adapted to their needs and honest support as they build both confidence and genuine understanding.

My name is Muhammad Samad, and I am a Physics and Computer Science student at the University of Victoria. My goal is to help students genuinely understand physics rather than simply memorize formulas for their next test.

I use a visual, interactive and concept-first teaching approach. Whenever possible, I connect equations to diagrams, animations, computer simulations, simple experiments and examples from everyday life. Once a student can visualize what a system is physically doing, the mathematics usually becomes much more intuitive and meaningful.

A typical lesson begins with a short conversation about the student’s goals and the ideas they find confusing. We then explore the underlying concept through a visual explanation, simulation or practical demonstration. Next, I connect that physical picture to the relevant equations and work through an example step by step. The student then solves a related problem with my guidance and explains the reasoning back in their own words. We finish by reviewing the key idea and identifying what to practice next.

This approach has helped both me and my peers over the years. Neurodivergent students in particular can find visual explanations, practical implementations and clearly structured steps helpful when abstract notation alone feels difficult to process. However, I do not assume that one method works for everyone; I adapt the pace, examples and level of detail to each student.

What sets me apart is my combined background in experimental physics and computer science. I can use simulations to make invisible processes visible, while experiments and real-world examples demonstrate how mathematical relationships describe the universe around us. I want lessons to be engaging and enjoyable while still carefully covering the required coursework.

My lessons are intended for high-school physics students and students taking introductory first-year university physics. I can help with building foundational understanding, problem-solving, assignment support and exam preparation.

Richard Feynman wrote, “What I cannot create, I do not understand.” I want my students to reach the point where they can reconstruct an idea, explain it clearly and recognize it in the physical world, not merely repeat a memorized formula.
