About Octavia
Hi, I'm Octavia — a Perth-based Electrical Engineering (Honors) student at the University of Western Australia, and a passionate math and science tutor for secondary students.
I have always loved the moment when a difficult concept finally clicks. Whether it's untangling a tricky Math proof or making sense of a Physics problem that seemed impossible five minutes ago, I find real satisfaction in helping students get there — and making sure they can do it again on their own.
My academic background is strong. I achieved Dean's List recognition at the University of St Andrews in the UK before returning to Perth to study Engineering at UWA — so I know firsthand what it takes to perform at a high level, and I know the WA curriculum well.
Beyond the academics, I have several years of experience working directly with young people — as a private tutor, a surf instructor, and a volunteer in schools and community centers across Kenya. I understand that every student is different, and I take the time to figure out how you learn best before jumping straight into content.
My sessions are structured, focused and encouraging. I won't make you feel silly for not knowing something — that's what I'm here for. I hold a Working With Children Check and take the safety and well-being of every student I work with seriously.
If you're looking for a tutor who is genuinely invested in your progress — not just someone to sit beside you while you do homework — I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to reach out for a free 15-minute intro call so we can make sure we're the right fit.

Every session follows a clear structure, but stays flexible enough to go where the student needs. I don't just re-teach what the classroom already covered — I dig into why something works, so the concept sticks beyond the exam.
I work through theory first, then move into worked examples together, then hand over to the student to tackle practice questions while I guide rather than give away answers. Past papers are a core part of my toolkit — there's no better way to build exam confidence than getting comfortable with the real thing.
Typical lesson structure:
Check-in (5 min)
What's been tricky this week? Any tests, assignments or gaps from class?
Concept explanation (15 min)
I break down the theory clearly, using real examples and analogies that make sense.
Worked examples together (15 min)
We work through problems side by side so the student sees the method in action.
Student practice (20 min)
Past paper questions or practice problems — the student leads, I guide where needed.
Wrap-up (5 min)
Recap what clicked, flag what to review before next session.
I specialize in secondary math and science, with a focus on students who want to lift their ATAR score or finally feel on top of a subject that's been giving them grief. Courses include: ATAR Methods, Specialists, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, English.
I'm an Electrical Engineering student at UWA with a strong academic track record including Dean's List recognition at the University of St Andrews. My own ATAR math and science background means I know exactly what the WA curriculum demands — and where students most commonly get stuck.
Beyond academics, I have years of experience working with children and teenagers across tutoring, surf instruction, babysitting and international volunteer work in schools and community centers. I know how to build trust with young people and keep them engaged even when a subject feels hard.
