About Ben
My name is Ben, I am a UWA graduate majoring in Physics and Mathematics. I am above all a curious person and this has naturally led me to become an avid learner and teacher. I get immense satisfaction from learning about new subjects and reading as often as I can.
One of my many personal passions is mathematics and physics related to space exploration. I've always wanted to work in the space sector and I will soon be able to make that wish come true after being accepted into the Astronautics and Space Engineering at Cranfield University in the UK.
As the world becomes ever more dependant on technology, we have found that all areas of life, not just STEM fields, require mathematics to help process data and information. I think developing essential mathematics skills is incredibly important even if your interest lies away from STEM and this is why I have become so passionate about teaching and learning.

From my experiences as a high school student and university graduate, I have found that nearly all STEM teachers teach their subjects from a methods based approach.
This helps students solve a set of standardised problems but often fails to help students understand subjects on a fundamental level. You are taught how to solve a problem and not why a particular method works. This often means students struggle to apply concepts that have learnt to problems they are not familiar with.
My approach to teaching is to help students grasp a strong understanding of fundamental mathematics and physics to help them develop a strong intuitive understand of all problems they might face, not just standardised problems.
Not only will this help you with your current studies but also with the problem solving style of work you will face at university if that is your goal.
Typically sessions will be 1h long but longer sessions are possible.
I specialise in teaching Yr8 - Yr12 at any level, including WACE studies. I have experience as a tutorial demonstrator at UWA for entry level mathematics classes.
