About Shiven
I'm a Computer Science student at the University of Waterloo, and calculus is one of my favorite subjects. I love integrals especially: the moment you see infinitely many thin slices add up to an exact answer is hard to beat.
I've been tutoring for 2 years, and I've learned that students rarely struggle because calculus is too hard. They struggle because it was handed to them as rules to memorize instead of ideas to see. So I teach the other way around: start with the picture, build the intuition, then let the formulas follow.
My own studies keep me close to the material. Right now I'm working through university-level calculus, so I know exactly where students get stuck and which explanations actually help. I also build things with code, from machine learning projects to a real-time sign language detection system, so I'm happy to show how calculus powers the tools you may already be curious about.
If you want calculus to feel less like a list of rules and more like a language you can speak, send me a message and tell me where you're starting from.

Calculus is a language for talking to infinity, and like any language, you can't learn it by memorizing a phrasebook. You learn it by using it until it feels natural. That's how my lessons work.
We start with the questions calculus was invented to answer.
How fast is something changing right now, at this exact instant? How do you add up infinitely many infinitely thin pieces and get a real number? Once you see the problem, the tools stop feeling like arbitrary rules and start feeling like the obvious thing to invent.
We see it before we compute it.
• Limits: zooming in on a curve until you can see what's happening at a single point
• Derivatives: the slope of a curve at one point, and why the rules (power, product, chain) are just that idea in different clothes
• Integrals: slicing an area into thin strips and watching the sum settle into an exact answer
• The Fundamental Theorem: why differentiating and integrating undo each other, which is the moment calculus really clicks
Graphs, diagrams, and step-by-step derivations come first, and the formulas follow naturally. You'll be able to rebuild a rule from scratch instead of hoping you remember it.
We go a little deeper than the syllabus.
Along the way, we ask the questions most classes skip: why does the derivative of sin x give cos x, what does it mean to add up infinitely many things, and how can a sum of infinitely many terms be finite? That curiosity is what makes the exam problems feel easy.
What you can expect:
• Visual, intuition-first explanations
• Derivations you can follow and reproduce
• Practice problems that build from basic to challenging
• Examples drawn from things you care about, like motion, games, and sports
• A patient space to ask "but why?" as often as you need
Who it's for:
High school, AP, IB, and first-year university students, and anyone who has been getting the right answers without feeling like they understand what's going on.

Learning to code always felt overwhelming until I started lessons with Mr. Shiven Sharma on Superprof. He breaks down abstract, intimidating programming concepts into simple, real-world analogies that actually click. Rather than just handing me the syntax, Mr. Shiven taught me how to think like a developer and debug methodically when errors pop up. Extremely patient, punctual, and encouraging. If you are starting from scratch or looking to make a switch into tech, I couldn't recommend a better tutor
