About Gene
My Teaching Philosophy & Commitment:
As your tutor, my ultimate goal is to transform mathematics from a source of stress to a source of confidence. I understand that mathematics can be incredibly frustrating, and everyone learns differently. Due to this, I adapt my communication style to match a student's unique needs and preferences. Once math "clicks," it can become much more fun than many others see it, and my goal is to turn mathematics into a subject of joy, not dread. I treat sessions as a collaborative team effort. I show up to every lesson fully prepared, organized, and focused on your utmost success and satisfaction. You can expect patience, professionalism, and a positive attitude which fosters an environment in which asking questions is the encouraged standard. Together, we can build the study habits and deep conceptual understanding needed to reach your mathematical academic goals.

I approach tutoring with a step-by-step learning process. I first demonstrate a problem, we solve it together, and then the student tries it alone. I use a helping hand by asking guiding questions instead of simply giving away the answer.
My typical lesson plan looks something like this:
- For the first ten minutes, I will spend time with the student with easier mathematical "warm-ups" to prepare them for more difficult topics lying ahead.
- Then for minutes 10-25, I will spend this time demonstrating and explaining any new concepts that a student may need help with.
- For minutes, 25-45, I will spend time with the student with guided practice working through harder problems together.
- For minutes 45-55, I will then give the student independent practice to which they can attempt difficult concepts on their own.
- For minutes 55-60, I can provide a quick recap and a review of any potential topics for future lessons.
What Sets Me Apart:
- Math Major, Studying Statistics at UCSD with perfect A grades in college Calculus, with 5's on exams such as AP Physics and AP Statistics.
- Valedictorian, graduated 1/979 out of my class, and know exactly how to perform well on exams.
- Confidence Builder, As I am a Former sports captain, I know exactly how to make lessons encouraging and stress-free.
My lessons are for any skill level of mathematics, for any particular topics, ranging from elementary to high school, specializing in but not limited to:
- Calculus & Precalculus
- Statistics
- Algebra
- AP examination prep (AP Physics 1, AP Statistics, AP Calculus)
- Basic Trigonometry/Unit Circle

I met Gene Cassarye 3 years ago at my high school. He offered to tutor me in honors integrated 2, 3, and AP Physics 1, where I passed all my classes with an A and a 4 in Physics. He was patience with me when I struggled, and was able to clear any confusion I had on the material, making me feel confident after session.
Gene has always been someone I could go to whenever I had questions about math. He has a great way of breaking down concepts and explaining them in a way that’s simple and easy to understand. He’s knowledgeable and wants to make sure you understand the material. I’d recommend Gene to anyone looking for a reliable math tutor.
