About Eric
I am a Valencia High School graduate who received a dual diploma through the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Val Tech programs. I took 4 years of advanced math (3 years of which were Calculus) and 3 years of advanced chemistry. I was a member of the National Honors Society and tutored math and chemistry to other high school students my senior year through this program. Outside of school, I participate in hiking outings with my Boy Scout troop. In this troop, I earned the rank of Eagle and gained valuable experience leading and teaching peers through leadership positions and volunteering. In each lesson I give I strive to incorporate the values and skills learned to make a valuable learning experience for the student.

I have experience teaching up to high school students in subjects such as chemistry and trigonometry. My lessons are for those in grade school (K-12) and can teach through AP Calculus AB. Since I am a college student, it would be ideal to complete lessons virtually.
When tutoring other students, I teach using the "EDGE" method (Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, Enable). Based on the student's needs, I modify my use of the "EDGE" method. I achieve this using several examples. The first example I walk the student through completely to find areas of weakness and use the next few examples to strengthen those areas. This leaves the final few examples for the student to try on their own. I typically do not assign homework unless requested by either the student or parent/guardian of the student.
If a student struggles to remember a concept or understanding why a certain method is used, my explanation will be a derivation of the method. I find that this helps students better attach the concept to the approach to the method and that understanding the "why" behind concepts improves comprehension.
