About Mary
I have worked with many workshop groups and I understand the inherent vulnerability that comes with sharing your writing.
When we write, I can assure that all ideas remain confidential. My feedback and support does not come from a place of ideas, but rather from a place of writing techniques. Writing with me means to bring all ideas to the table and know that I will support them all and assist you with seeing the value in what you have to say.

I am an MFA Creative Writing candidate at The University of British Columbia, and an alum of Simon Fraser’s The Writer’s Studio.
I write primarily poetry but am versed in non-fiction, fiction, and graphic novels. I work as an editor for SAD Magazine and am a reader for ONLYPOEMS.
I have been a writing resident with The Seventh Wave and a forthcoming writing resident with Leña Residency.
I believe storytelling is vital, and recognise that there is no right or wrong way to write. I am eager to assist people with learning where to start and how to challenge their creativity and ideas when it comes to storytelling. I want to help you find your strengths and styles with writing and provide resources on how to maintain a writing and reading routine.
My work has been nominated for Best of the Net and long-listed for Pulp Literature’s Kingfisher Poetry Prize, with my other work featured and forthcoming in Canadian Literature Journal, SAD Magazine, Vallum Magazine, Serviette, Ensemble, Yolk Literary, Starling, takahē, Rat World, Poetry Aotearoa Yearbook, and elsewhere.
I have been a featured reader at Poetry in the Park, The Writer’s Studio reading series, takahē, Starling, and elsewhere.
