About Evelyn

"I am a passionate piano tutor with over 9 years of experience teaching students of all ages. My background blends academic training from my BM in Sacred Music with years of playing ragtime, stride, and early jazz piano. I love sharing these energetic historical piano styles with both school-aged students and adults.

Whether your goal is to master a traditional church organ piece or a fast ragtime tune, I tailor my lessons to you. We will work on building a strong physical technique while exploring the rich history behind each genre. For example, I recently helped a high school student prepare a complex stride piano piece for a local talent show.

We worked on left-hand accuracy and syncopated rhythms until the performance felt completely natural and energetic. It was wonderful to see them bring a historic musical style to life for a modern audience. I welcome students of all skill levels, from absolute beginners to advanced players wanting to expand their repertoire.

"My piano teaching methodology focuses on modern styles and practical application for popular music. We will explore pop piano techniques, playing by ear, and using chord voicings for popular songs. I also teach you how to easily arrange contemporary pieces so you can play them in your own style.

This approach is perfect for busy adults who want a relaxing hobby and want to play their favorite songs without stress. It is also ideal for younger players who want to skip classical drills and jump straight into current radio hits. I once helped an adult student learn to play a favorite ballad entirely by ear in just a few weeks.

We broke the song down into simple chord patterns and rhythms that were easy to remember. Seeing their excitement when they finally played it for their family was incredibly rewarding. Together, we will unlock the secrets of pop piano and make learning feel fast and fun.

You will learn how to read lead sheets, play with smooth rhythms, and add creative fills. Every drill we do is directly connected to a song you actually love. I am committed to helping you play confidently and enjoy every minute of your musical journey.
