About Maurice
With over twenty years' experience as a professional television drama director, I've spent my career turning scripts into stories that engage millions of viewers. Today I combine that experience with my role as a university Film Production Lecturer, supported by an MA in Writing for the Screen and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE).
I enjoy helping aspiring filmmakers develop the creative confidence, technical skills and storytelling ability needed to bring their own ideas to life.

For over twenty years, I worked as a professional television drama director, directing episodes of some of Britain's best-known television series for major UK broadcasters. Every lesson I teach is shaped by the realities of working in the screen industry - not just by theory.
Today, alongside my screenwriting, I lecture in Film Production at university level and hold an MA in Writing for the Screen. This combination of professional practice and higher education allows me to help students understand both the creative and technical sides of filmmaking.
Whether you're an absolute beginner, preparing a university portfolio, developing a screenplay, or looking to strengthen your directing skills - my goal isn't simply to teach you how to make films - it's to help you understand how filmmakers think.
My approach is practical and collaborative. Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to your experience, interests and goals. We will explore why a scene works, how visual choices shape emotion and how story, performance, editing and cinematography combine to engage an audience. Sessions include discussion, analysis and practical application, so you will leave with skills you can immediately use in your own work.
I teach directing, visual storytelling, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, production planning and film analysis.
Above all my aim is to help you become a confident storyteller with your own creative voice.
Great films aren't made by people who know or own the most equipment - they're made by people who know how to tell a story. That's what will help you develop.
