About Jamie
I’ve spent most of my adult life making records, playing in bands, working with artists and teaching music production. I came into this through actually doing it — long studio days, rehearsals, deadlines, problem-solving and all the strange little lessons you only really learn by being around music for a long time.
Along the way I’ve assisted on records for artists including Florence + the Machine, and I’ve also worked as a producer with artists including The 1975. Earlier in my career I was signed as part of a major-label band which has recently come back to life again.
That’s probably why I enjoy teaching so much. I like helping people make sense of the gap between the textbook version of music production and the reality of actually trying to make something good. I’m interested in taste, confidence, decision-making and creative identity just as much as software and technique.

I’m a professional music producer, mixer, guitarist and university lecturer with over 20 years’ experience in music and audio. I teach music production, mixing, recording and creative studio practice in a practical, relaxed and highly personalised way.
My lessons are built around your own music, goals and level of experience. Rather than teaching from a fixed syllabus, I’ll help you solve real problems in your productions, understand why things work, develop your ears and build a more confident approach to making records. We can cover anything from recording and arrangement through to sound design, beat-making, vocal production, EQ, compression, effects, mix workflow, critical listening and final mix decisions.
I hold a degree, a professional audio qualification from Alchemea College and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and I have over a decade of experience teaching music production and mixing at university level.
Lessons are typically one hour and are suitable for beginners, students, emerging producers and more experienced musicians who want to improve specific areas of their work.
