About Lydia
I've been teaching violin and viola for over 20 years and hold a Doctor of Musical Arts in viola performance from the University of Illinois, and studied violin at the Academy of Music in Kraków, Poland. I perform professionally with the Jackson Symphony and other ensembles in mid-Michigan. I've been fortunate to study with exceptional teachers whose wisdom informs my own approach every day — they modeled not just musicianship but genuine care for the whole person, and that's the legacy I bring to every lesson. Music has always been a treasured part of my life — my father was a public school orchestra teacher, and now as a mom and musician in this community, I regularly visit local school orchestras to lead sectionals and cheer on the programs that give kids their start.

My lessons are affirming, uplifting, and adaptive to each student's individual learning preferences and needs. My teaching draws on Alexander Technique body alignment, performance psychology, and detailed technical grounding — always in service of preserving the joy of playing. I specialize in pain-free, injury-conscious playing and bring lived experience and personal commitment to supporting students with disabilities and neurodiversity.
I love working with students of all ages and abilities. My lessons with children are joyful and gentle, and my middle school and high school students frequently receive strong positive rankings at Solo and Ensemble. I also treasure working with adult beginners and returning musicians — people who thought it was too late, or who lost music for a while and want it back.
