About Connor
I am a violin instructor with over 7 years of teaching experience. I work with students at all levels, from beginners to advanced players. I have successfully taught between 200 and 250 students. Many have passed graded exams, performed in orchestras, and gained confidence in solo playing. My teaching is based on real-world application, constructive feedback, and reliability. I focus on posture, bow control, intonation, and expression. I also teach sight-reading, music theory, and ear training. I provide clear feedback to help students improve quickly. I am patient, supportive, and consistent. I celebrate progress and guide students through difficulties. I am proud of my students' growth and their love for music. My goal is to develop skilled and confident violinists.

My teaching framework for violin is built on three key principles: real-world examples, feedback-driven instruction, and reliability. I believe learning violin is a journey that takes patience, consistent effort, and clear direction. My goal is to help students develop technical strength, musical expression, and a lasting love for the instrument. Real-world examples are central to my teaching. I don't teach exercises alone. I show students how professional violinists use specific techniques in actual performances. I use recordings and videos to demonstrate bowing, phrasing, and tone. I share stories from my own experience and past students to make lessons practical and relatable. When a student faces a challenge, I refer to similar cases I have handled and explain how those problems were overcome. This approach makes learning clearer and more practical. Feedback-driven instruction is another key element. I believe regular, clear, and helpful feedback is essential for growth. I give students specific comments on their posture, bow hold, intonation, rhythm, and expression after each exercise and piece. I point out their strengths and what needs work. I also teach students to listen critically to themselves so they can self-correct during practice. I use lesson recordings to help them hear their playing objectively. This builds their ability to evaluate their own progress and become independent learners. Reliability is the foundation of my practice. I am punctual, prepared, and consistent. My students know what to expect in each session. I follow a clear structure but remain flexible to their needs. I am also reliable in communication. I respond to questions promptly and check on their practice between lessons. This consistency builds trust and gives students security in their learning. My lessons cover many violin subjects. Technique is the primary focus. I teach proper posture, bow hold, left-hand position, finger placement, and various bowing techniques like legato, staccato, spiccato, and détaché. I use scales, arpeggios, and etudes to build strength, precision, and coordination. Intonation receives special attention. I use ear training, drone practice, and finger exercises to help students develop a reliable sense of pitch. I teach shifting and vibrato gradually as students advance. Sight-reading is included to develop reading fluency with progressive materials. Music theory is woven into lessons to deepen understanding of key signatures, time signatures, intervals, and chord progressions. Repertoire is chosen to match each student's taste and level, covering classical, folk, jazz, and contemporary styles. I teach phrasing, bow control, dynamics, and expression. Ear training is integrated into every session through call-and-response, interval recognition, and melodic dictation. Improvisation is introduced for students who want creative freedom. I teach basic scales and patterns to help them create their own variations. Performance preparation is another area. I help students build stage confidence, manage nerves, and develop presence. I hold mock performances and give constructive feedback. Each lesson follows a clear structure. We start with physical warm-ups and open-string exercises, move to scales and technical work, and focus on repertoire. I end with a review and practice goals for the week. I assess progress regularly and adjust goals as needed. My aim is to create confident, expressive, and skilled violinists who enjoy playing.
