About Suzie

The faint vibration of a perfectly tuned string remains the most satisfying sensory image I know after 8 years of helping others find their musical voice. My training at Rice University Shepherd School of Music taught me the mechanics, but my mistakes with early students taught me how to explain them. I focus on the basics like tone production, rhythm, and timing to ensure the reasoning behind each technique feels obvious in hindsight.

My approach covers everything from complex spiccato and staccato bowing to foundational ear training and vibrato. Watching an amateur player finally master a difficult orchestral passage or pass an ABRSM exam brings me genuine joy. It is a privilege to help busy adults refine their bowing technique and build confidence through patient, methodical guidance.

Have you ever wondered why a certain passage sounds muddy despite hours of repetitive practice? I address this by providing recorded playback of your tricky sections so you can hear exactly where your intonation needs a subtle shift.

Because I hold a BMus from Rice University, I bridge the gap between rigorous conservatory standards and the practical needs of someone playing for the simple love of music. We start by evaluating your current bowing mechanics and ear training habits to ensure a solid foundation.

These sessions allow us to isolate rhythm issues and refine your tone production with precision. I keep my feedback methodical and warm to ensure you feel supported during every step of your development. Providing these audio references is my way of ensuring you stay on track between meetings. I genuinely enjoy hearing your progress as the music begins to take shape.
