About Jennie

I begin my music study by casually taking piano lessons in 2005 and decided to study music seriously with a new instrument - violin. I played regularly for a church string ensemble before joining the Twilite Youth Orchestra in 2010. In 2011, I continued my higher education at Sydney Conservatorium of Music majoring in music performance (2011), then transferred to University of New South Wales, majoring in music education (2012).

During my study in Sydney, I was mentored by Ms. Carolyn Chen and Mr. Kevin Tu (Sydney Conservatorium of Music); Mrs. Jenny Robinson and Mrs. Dorottya Fabian (University of New South Wales). I am also active as a freelance violinist / instructor, and joined the UNSW handbells ensemble, UNSW world music band, and the Filmharmonia Orchestra (1st violin).

I am an Australian accredited teacher, certified by NESA (New South Wales Education Standards Authority) since 2016. Graduated in 2017 from the University of New South Wales with two degrees: Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education (Secondary), two majors: Music Extension and EAL / D (English).

About the lesson

I specialised in classical music, however I'm open to teach contemporary pop music as well. You may choose to take the lessons in Bahasa/English. I offer several programs for beginners to pre-conservatory levels:

1. TWINKLE
Twinkle sets the child on the violin and at the end of this program, your child will be twinkling with good violin postures, and ready to progress to Kinderviolin.

2. KINDERVIOLIN
The Kinderviolin programme is all about strong technical foundation and musicianship. Structured to prepare the child to grade 1 competence, your child will be playing it right, and fiddling with utmost enjoyment by the end of the year.

3. PRELUDE
This is a course offered to students who have passed the Kinderviolin programme. Transfer students who wish to enrol are required to complete an induction period for the duration of up to six week - depending of their musicianship.

Prelude is designed after mainstream school system. The course is held over 4 terms (12 weeks per term). This is an intensive course taken by students that are preparing to progress in ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall music examination. Alternatively, students may also enrol in this course if they wish to complete a method of their choice (e.g. Suzuki) within the course structure. Students will be guided through the material alongside our own curriculum. They will continue to develop their musicianship and technical mastery of the instrument.

4. TRAILBLAZERS
Trailblazers is the signature programme I recommend for everyone. It is designed after Prelude, without the time restriction. I personally believe that a 'great' performance is the outcome of BOTH technical mastery and musicianship. Trailblazers developed this curriculum beyond a simple violin course - students are taught about music holistically, engaging in musical activities such as: performing, listening, composing, musicology, and aural.

Further information about the courses offered will be explained during the trial.

I designed the curriculum and considered the aspects that require attention in each grade. Students will also engage in side activities such as: ensemble, yearly recitals and music critiques.

The course material is discussed with students, some of the options I offer are my own (ongoing) method or the following methods: Doflein, Suzuki, Hohmann, Maia Bang. Some examples of etude that students are currently studying include: Wohlfahrt, Sevcik, Schradiek, Trott, Kreutzer, Simon Fischer, Carl Flesch, etc.

Students may request a specific song/piece they would like to learn - be it ensemble/solo piece. I can also help arrange some pop tunes for violin duets or accompaniment on the piano.

I strongly believe the child's first lessons are the most important. A healthy foundation means everything.

The first meeting is an interview and micro lesson - it is FREE if students opt to visit the studio / online; A fee of Rp. 50,000 applies if choosing to take the course at the student's preferred location. Travel costs are estimates, depending on the distance and duration of the trip.
