About Lia
I started playing the violin at five years old and moved from Taiwan to New York City at age 12 to study at Juilliard Pre-College with Ann Setzer. I currently study Violin Performance at the Manhattan School of Music as a Presidential Scholarship recipient under Patinka Kopec, and I have also studied with world-class violinist Richard Lin since the age of 10. I began competing from a young age and have received numerous awards throughout my musical training, including opportunities to perform as a soloist with orchestras. I have also attended prestigious music festivals such as the Taipei Music Academy & Festival and the Heifetz International Music Institute, where I had the opportunity to study with renowned musicians including Ani Kavafian and Cho-Liang Lin. Over the years, I have built an extensive repertoire through solo performances, chamber music, orchestral playing, competitions, and festivals, giving me experience across a wide range of musical styles and works. These experiences have shaped both my playing and my approach to teaching, and I enjoy helping students develop strong technique, musical confidence, and a genuine connection to the music they play.

I tailor each lesson to the student’s individual goals, level, and learning style. My teaching focuses on building a strong technical foundation while also developing musicality, confidence, and a beautiful sound. Lessons can include technique, scales, études, solo repertoire, sight-reading, and preparation for auditions, competitions, performances, or just for fun.
I have trained in classical violin for many years, including six years at Juilliard Pre-College, and I currently study Violin Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. I enjoy working with students of different ages and levels, whether they are picking up the violin for the first time, looking for a practice tutor on top of their regular lessons, or looking to refine their playing at a more advanced level.
My goal is to create lessons that are encouraging and structured while still making music enjoyable and motivating through my own personal experiences!
