About Hailey

Hi, I am a violin tutor with over 6 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Composition with a Violin Focus. I have a real passion for crossover violin styles, including Jazz, Rock, Hip-Hop Strings, and World Music. Traditional training is important, but I love showing students what the violin can do beyond the classical world.
A big part of my teaching involves improvisation, along with the use of looping pedals and other creative performance techniques. I enjoy helping students build layered, live sounds using looping pedals and effects, which opens up so many creative possibilities. Writing original solos is something we work on together, so students learn to trust their own musical instincts.
I also guide students in adapting popular songs for violin and experimenting with different tones and textures. This kind of exploration keeps lessons exciting and personal to each student's taste. If you are curious about where the violin can go with a bit of technology and imagination, I would love to explore that with you. Let's push past tradition and discover what your violin can really do.

About the lesson

My methodology fosters imagination and unique musical creation. Violin does not have to stay within traditional boundaries, and I encourage students to explore that early on. We often start with creative composition for violin, so students learn to generate their own musical ideas instead of only playing existing pieces.
From there, we move into arranging existing melodies, which helps students understand structure while still leaving room for personal style. Writing original pieces comes next, and this is often where students discover their own musical voice. I also introduce exploring non-traditional sounds, since the violin can create so much more than people expect.
Some students are adults building confidence after years away from music, and I create a relaxed space where experimenting feels safe rather than intimidating. Others are content creators looking for unique sounds to use in their own projects, so I help them shape ideas that feel fresh and personal. In both cases, I help them express their personal musical voice through the violin.
