I can help beginner to intermediate students at violin, viola, and piano, as well as those that want to learn more about music theory and the orchestra!
My approach is very hands on, but with also a focus on guiding the student to the right method of thinking about the music and playing. Bad habits, especially with a finicky instrument like the violin, are very hard to get rid of! Fixing these from the beginning, by learning the right technique first, is absolutely critical and will yield extremely efficient progress!
I have played piano for 18 years and violin for 15. Two years ago I also picked up the viola, which is very similar to the violin, but has its own idiosyncrasies and adjustments as well. The repertoire is very different and its musical character is different as well.
I have studied music theory and music history in college as well. I have also been playing in youth orchestras up to collegiate and semiprofessional orchestras as both a violinist and violist for over 10 years. I consider myself a student of anything musical (theory, performance practice, orchestration, arrangements, etc.)

Charlie does a great job explaining concepts and problems. He's really accommodating and easy to work with!
Charlie tutored me in Discrete Mathematics and Probability Theory. He explained concepts really clearly and went above and beyond to understand and correct his student's gaps in knowledge. His teaching style involves building up from the basics which is really helpful when you are confused. I would recommend Charlie as a tutor because of his really good understanding of subject material and ability to convey that material really clearly.
